Popularization of Fila Brasileiro dogs in the United States started in the 1980s. An article on the breed published by a famous magazine for dog lovers, "Dog World," was the first step in the door. It provoked much interest in the breed that has traditionally been used in a variety of activities. Good working qualities of the Fila Brasileiro dog combined with outstanding temperament traits provided for much success in the United States.
Fila Brasileiros - Breed Clubs
The first breed club was organized in 1984. Fila Brasileiro lovers in America received support from the club and found many like-minded people who were very devoted to the breed. The population of the Fila Brasileiro dog began to grow rapidly. By the late 1980s, Fila Brasileiros appeared in twenty-four states.
As the community of breed fanciers grew, other clubs appeared in the United States. All of them had promotion the Fila Brasileiro dog as their objective. Club members actively participate in club activities and help re-home abandoned dogs. A rescue activity is an important part of the breed promotion. Breeder education is no less vital, though. It is why breed clubs develop breeder guidelines and help breeders achieve good results while breeding Fila Brasileiros.
