The gait of the Fila Brasileiro has been described as cat like. They have a long reach and a smooth gait.
For such a large dog, their speed is surprising. Their eyes are almond-shaped, medium to large in size, and spaced well apart. Their ears are thick and large and broad at the base with rounded tips. Their coat is short, even, thick and snug to the skin.

Fila Brasileiro dogs have the appearance of calm and noble dogs with great confidence. When at attention, their expression reflects determination and alertness with an unyielding and piercing look in the eyes. The Fila Brasileiro has strong bones and a heavy, massive head that is proportional to their body. Their muzzle is wide and deep.

The Fila Brasileiro has great variety of colors and markings and can be solid or striped. The variety of colors includes the brindles, fawns, and blacks. White, mouse-gray, dapple, black and tan, and patched dogs are not desirable. White markings should only be on the feet, chest, and the tip of the tail.
Height: Males are usually 25.5 inches to 29.5 inches (65 to 75 cm); females stand about 23.5 inches to 27.5 inches (60 to 70 cm) at the shoulder.
Weight: Males are l00 lbs. (minimum of 50 kg). Female Fila Brasileiro dogs can weigh 90 lbs. (minimum of 40 kg).
